QuestionI live in central New Jersey by the shore and planted coneflower seeds this past spring. I have nice broad green leaves as of late September and assume that I will get flowers next spring/summer. Please tell me what I should do to accomplish this. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

AnswerHi Bill,
Thanx for your question. Coneflowers are typical of a lot of perennials that put out nice green growth the first year from seed and then bloom the subsequent season. They have a long taproot so they are difficult to transplant. I would leave the plants be. They're very tough an dwill have no trouble surviving your central New Jersey Winter. Next summer, you will have a lot of beautiful flowers. I wouldn't do anything to them. They will be fine. Once they get going too, they'll make a nice thick community of plants by reseeding themselves.
I hope this helps.
