QuestionI bought a house last summer with several beautiful rose bushes in the back yard. I thought they were knock out roses, so I cut the dead blooms off below the closest stem separation and they seemed to do quite well. I left them be over the winter months. This summer, there weren't nearly as many blooms. My sister tells me they are climbing roses as in some places they grow very longs stems which bloom at the end in big clumps. The only care I gave them was with pesticides to get rid of the bugs. At this time last year, they were still very healthy, but now there are very few blooms and I don't know what to do with them. Can I save them? Shall I prune them down severely? Fertilize them? I live in the Atlanta suburbs, so the winters are very mild. I'm hoping I can do something to make them beautiful again.
Thank you.
AnswerHello Jamie
Thank you for your question.
Your roses do sound like climbers, but because roses are such a huge genus they are a gardening subject in their own right, so I'm going to advise you to go back to the AllExperts main menu, click on 'Gardening', then click on 'Roses' - there is a dedicated rose Expert there who, I'm sure, will be able to give you really in-depth advise on how to do the best for your plants.
