QuestionI had some miniature pink very spicy double carnations when I lived in Yreka, California but haven't been able to find any since leaving there. They were perennials and had an abundance of flowers for all the summer months. The fragrance was very strong. Can you tell me where I might find these? I had a border of them over twenty feet long. Sincerely, Rose Scott
AnswerDear Rose
Thank you for your question.
There are literally hundreds of varieties of Dianthus (the botanical name for carnations and pinks). Many of them are clove scented - a very strong spicy scent and perfectly lovely when you catch the fragrance on the evening breeze.
If your local garden center is unable to help, you might like to check out www.burpee.com. I came across this website while surfing the web looking for likely suppliers for you. They do have a section on Dianthus and you can request a catalogue.
I hope this helps you to find what you are looking for.
