wisteria seeds

Question
i recently aquired some wisteria tree pods  i was wondering how to plant them  do i take the seeds out of the pods ???

Answer
Hi Anthony,
Thanx for your question.  If the seed pods were picked green the seeds are probably not fully developed and most likely won't germinate.  If the seed pods were allowed to dry and turn brown the seeds are ripe.  Plant them in the spring about 1/2 inch deep in a pot.  Like beans, they will germinate in less than a week but sometimes up to two weeks.  When they are seveal inches tall, gently prick them out and plant in separate pots.  Put outdoors in the shade after the last frost, for 10 days.  After that, plant in full sun.  It will take upwards of 15 years to get a bloom from seed.  I hope this helps.
Tom
