QuestionMy perennial bed is being invaded by what I call wire grass. Are there any suggestions for getting rid of it besides digging up all my plants, and reworking the bed? If you suggest I do this, can I rework the bed in late fall or should I wait till spring? Thanks
AnswerHi Linda,
Thanx for your question. I know Roundup isn't politically correct, but, one has to do what one has to do. Wearing gloves, pour some Roundup carefully in an old margarine container and using one of the little sponge paint applicators on a stick you can find in any paint department in the big box stores, Walmart, etc., apply the Round up to individual stands of the "wire grass". I have uncontrollable Bermuda grass which grows from underground stolons and I have bindweed that I successfully treat this way. It is a constant battle and you will have to make numerous applications before you get rid of it. Be persistant and you'll save yourself a lot of time and trouble. I hope this helps.
