QuestionWe live in the panhandle of Florida and when I bought my lavender, it already had flowers on it. We have it in a pot on my back porch and it just seems to be getting really tall and is not flowering anymore. Should we trim it back or let it keep getting taller because it will bloom?
AnswerHi Melodie,
Thanx for your question. I used to live in Ft. Walton Beach many years ago. Do you know what kind of lavender you have? I really wouldn't cut it unless it looks like it is fading and dying, then you might want to trim it back to encourage new growth and blooms. If you are feeding your lavender with a high nitrogen fertilizer, that will cause green growth at the expense of flowering. Also, too much shade will result in legginess. The plant needs 8 hour of direct sun. I hope this helps.
