Endless Summer Hydrangeas

Question
Tom - me again. I have a cluster of three endless summer hydrangeas and this is the first year they have bloomed (I planted almost 2 yrs ago). and they are doing great and have gotten quite large and many hanging to the ground.  A couple questions 1)Can/How do I prune right now and 2)for branches that I don't prune, do I just snip off the bloom - not sure if I can only prune from sides or sides and top and when I do from the sides, do I clip to the ground. I'm new to pruning :)

Answer
Hi
Sandy,
Thanx for your question.  When pruning, you should only be pruning dead growth or growth that is wild or ungainly.  The shrub is usually pretty well-formed.  Otherwise, just deadhead the flowers right after they bloom.  The longer you wait to prune, the more likely you are to remove blooming tips for next year.  Check out the site below for more information on pruning hydrangeas.

I hope this helps.
Tom
