QuestionWhy does my lilac bush have green buds on it when it is late July in Western Ohio?
AnswerHello Karen
Mmm - this is an interesting question.
Lilac is usually a creature of habit - flowering in late spring/early summer and then just sitting there building up vigor for the next year! Did your Lilac flower normally in early summer? Have you had an unusually cold or warm period just lately? (stress can do some odd things to plants!) You might be lucky and have a second flowering this year!
I wouldn't worry as long as the plant looks to be healthy i.e. no damage to the woody parts, good greening on the leaves and no sign of pests.
I would wait until next year to see if it grows and blooms normally -it may just be 'one of those things'!
