QuestionHi. I have a small sloping patch for my tiger lillies but it has a heavy root system already in place with weeds and wild bushes. I have weedwacked the area and place landscape fabric over it. Then I cut small X's in the fabric and dug directly into the ground and planted my tiger lillies. After doing this 15 times I realized that I probably shouldn't have done that...I guess my question is will they spread (which I think I already know the answer to-which is no because of the fabric) and the other question is will the current root system of weeds/bushes choke out the lillies? Thanks!

AnswerDear Maija
I think you already know the answer to most of your questions - the landscape fabric was a mistake if you want your lilies to spread - sorry! The good news is that lilies will grow among shrubs and herbaceous plants in the border, so it is possible that they will survive among the bushes that are already there - they do like their roots to be in the shade and their heads in the sun. Get those weeds out though because they can become a real problem - not only for your lily patch, but they will seed themselves all over the garden if left to themselves.
