rose of sharon transplant

Question
Last fall I transplanted my Rose of Sharon.  It seemed to adapt well to the new site.  This year no foliage has appeared on the shrub but the wood is still green, flexible and obviously alive.  It is well past leafing time.  What should I do to kickstart growth.  I am in zone 6B.

Answer
Hi Coleen,
Thanx for your question.  It is unusual for a Rose-of-Sharon to be leafless this late in the season however, if you're certain it is still alive, I would side dress it with some well-composted manure and keep it watered.  It should be in direct sunlight for at least 6 hours per day.  That's about all you can do.  I hope this helps.
Tom
