QuestionThis is the first year for my oriental poppies and they are beautiful. Will they reseed themselves? Any other hints for increasing the plants in their same location.
AnswerHi Don,
Thanx for your question. Yes, poppies will reseed themselves. You can help them by shaking the dried pods in the autumn to make sure all the seeds are distributed at the growing site. Next spring you should have some new seedlings. I have started poppies from root cuttings. I dig up the roots in the spring when the new leaves are showing and cut the roots in 2 inch sections and replant them. That's how I got some great starts of a large, orange oriental poppy from my mother's house. I hope this helps.
