QuestionQUESTION: I bought a root at Wakmart that was supposed to be a bleeding heart. Instead I got a plant with yellow flowers that have eight petals. The leaves are fairly shiny with a mildly serrated edge. Any ideas as to what it is?
ANSWER: Hi Allan,
Thanx for your question. I think it is a yellow bleeding heart (Dicentra scandens). Here's a link. Let me know if this is it.

QUESTION: Tom,
I have attached a picture of this flower. A couple of the petals have fallen but it had 8 originally. The center is yellow/gold color.

AnswerHi Allan,
Thank you so much for the picture. It's a dahlia. This particular dahlia is grown as an annual for bedding plants and is commonly found throughout the USA. I know that Walmart also sells packaged dahlia tubers(roots) so it sounds to me like the nursery put the wrong root in the package.
I hope this helps.
