QuestionI know that hostas are moisture loving. Knowing this, is it safe to plant them directly alongside the foundation wall of the house? We have very little sunlight between my house and my neighbours' and grass doesn't grow. It's a mud pathway at the moment, leading to our respective backyards. It's an eyesore and we have not been able to get grass to grow (we tried seeds and sod). Given hostas' strength and hardiness, I thought of planting a few alongside our wall, thus adding green to a very dull area...but I don't want to jeopardize my foundation and create a moisture problem inside the walls/house. In your opinion, can I plant hostas there? Thank you very much for your expert advice.
AnswerHi Anik,
I don't think the hostas will harm your foundation. It is trees that cause foundation problems. Hostas are grade for moist, shady areas. They're also tough plants but have a sharp, classy look to them. Good luck. I hope this helps.
