Questionour neighbor gave us a cutting off his hummingbird vine how do we root it? Can I cut off the new growth and root in in water? My husband put the stem in rootone and planted it in a pot to see if it would root. Is this correct or do we need to do something else?
AnswerHi Julia,
When you say hummingbird vine are you talking about the trumpet vine (Campsis radicans)? Here's a link to some images on Google Images.

It's easier to use suckers (plantlets growing at the base of the mother plant) or seeds.
Take 4 inch long cuttings of almost ripe wood and dip in rooting hormone. Stick 1 inch deep in rooting medium, wet sand or perlite. Keep warm and moist. Rooting is slow and may not be evident until next spring. Use a frame to root outdoors. You can take root cuttings in December (2 inches) long. Stick these in a cold frame and they will produce plants in the spring.
I hope this helps.
