QuestionLast fall planted 5 mum plants in the front of my flower bed without realizing how big they grow. I would like to transplant them to another area in the yard. When would be the best time to do this and what would be the best way without shocking the plants to much?
AnswerHi Michelle,
Thanx for your question. The best time to transplant mums is in the fall when you have 30-45 days before the first frost. If you have to though, you can transplant them throughout late spring and summer. You can cut them back to about 6 inches and dig up the rootball and move them now. They will grow out again and hopefully bloom for you in the fall. I would make sure I dug far enough out and deep enough to get as much of the rootball as possible. They're relatively easy to transplant and the adult plants don't seem to suffer too much from transplanting. I hope this helps.
