QuestionHi Tom - I have a maidenhair fern and a Frances Williams hosta, somewhat near each other in a shade garden. They start out beautiful but after a bit, the top of the fern starts browning, as well as some of the edges of the hosta. We've had plenty of rain this spring, so I'm wondering what might be doing that. Thanks for any advice, -Jeanne
AnswerHi Jeanne,
Thanx for your question. If the soil is taking a while to drain, the plants may be resenting the wet feet. This causes the leaf edges to turn brown. Also, too much nitrogen causes tip burn and if you are fertilizing your lawn, you may be getting residue in your shade garden. I hope this helps.
