QuestionMy aunt has an old well established rose bush which she wanted divided and a portion moved. In the process I noticed what looked like a few bulb formations on the stems. Some seemed to have been growing for a while and others seemed to have completed it's growth and fell off like seed bulbs. I haven't seen anything like this. These are not the "rose hips" they are on the stem of the plant.
any ideas?
AnswerHi Arni,
Thanx for your question. The structures you describe are not seeds. They are probably a pest. Can you describe the structures in greater detail please? Rose hips are the ovary of the rose. After the rose flower has bloomed, the bulbous end is called the rose hip and that's where the seeds will form if there are any seeds. A formation coming out of the stems must be a parasite or some kind of disease.
I am not a rose expert. To get you a better, more precise answer please go back to Home/Garden and click on Gardening, then click on Roses. We have an expert here at Allexperts named Lynette Payne who may be able to provide you with a more precise answer than I.
I hope this helps.
