QuestionHello, I live in Wichita, KS. I recently planted my cala lily outside a couple years ago, it blooms but has may sprouts on it. Can I split it into other plants? Thanks, Beth
AnswerHi Beth,
Thanx for your question. I'm in Kansas City. Yes, you can divide your calla lily. It's amazing it has survived outdoors because generally, they are not hardy in zones colder than 7 which would be a bit farther south in Oklahoma. I've had them overwinter every now and then in a protected spot so maybe being in a warmer zone than Kansas City and perhaps an ideal spot, your callas have flourised outdoors.
At any rate, divide large plants in the early spring (you can do this in the fall too as long as there are 30-45 days before the first frost) by digging up the clump and dividing the flat rhizomes from each other. Try to make sure that each rhizome has a large clump of roots and a stem. Replant no more than 4 inches deep.
I hope this helps.
