Tree Fern, I think I may have killed it!!!

Question
I have a large tree fern that blommed gorgeously 2 years ago, when winter came it lost it's green leaves which I chopped but the new ones were ready curling to bloom away again. This winter the tree lost no green at all and only recently this april browned off and lost it's leaves. I didn't get to them in time and was late chopping them.
The fern hasn't been as well fed eiter and has not developed any new curls at all.... It's just the brown rooty trunk...
Will it ever grow back?
Can I get it back?
Or have I killed it????
Suggestion much apprecated.
I have since tended to it, and well fed it but nothing....
Many Thank for your time

Jade

Answer
Hi Jade,
Thanx for your question.  It's hard to say without seeing the plant.  I would say if it hasn't responded by now with new growth it probably did not survive but I would wait until June when it is nice and warm.  Sometimes a badly injured plant will remain dormant until it is sufficiently warm before it attempts a recovery.  Is the trunk soggy or rotten?  If that's the case, I'd say the plant is done for.  In the meantime, give it another couple weeks to see what it does.  I hope this helps.
Tom
