Followup to Rose of Sharon identification

Question

leavesandbud.jpg
Hi Tom!  I tried to ask a followup q, but I already had too many.  So this may be one of the ROS varities, hopefully the photos will help. I don't know if I can attach more than one, so will start with the leaves. I appreciate your interest.

Answer
Hi CJ,
Thanx for the picture.  I'm pretty sure, based upon the appearance of the leaves and the buds that this is a rose-of-sharon, Hibiscus syriacus.  You indicated that the label of the container this plant was in showed Rose-of-Sharon.  Yes, that's  what your picture is showing.  They are very hardy (to zone 5) and they are a member of the hibsicus family.  The hardy hibiscus is Hibiscus moscheutos and it is hardy to zone 4 or 5.  It will die back to the ground every winter and come back in May after the ground warms up.  So yes, you have a Rose-of-Sharon.  They are rugged, hardy, can take drought, heat and dry winds as well as tolerate cold, freezes, snow, and north winds.  I hope this helps.
Tom
