QuestionI have a bed in my front yard where I grew roses and purple fountain grass and I want to change the plantings. I have reconditioned the soil using cotton burr compost and peat. I would like to grow a "standard" Korean lilac (on one stem) and some red rhododendrons. Maybe I will also add one clump of purple fountain grass to the mix. Will these plants be friendly to each other? Like will a slightly acid soil be a good growing medium?
AnswerHi Ralph,
Thanx for your question. Slightly acidic soil will not be a detriment to any of the plants you mentioned. In fact, the rhododenrons will thrive especially well in slightly acidic to acidic soil. The other plants will be fine. I would also amend the soil with well composted cow manure. I hope this helps.
