QuestionIs it safe to eat the nectar from honeysuckle vines like we did when we were kids?
AnswerHi Glenda,
Thanx for your question. Honeysuckle flowers are safe to eat unless you have pollen allergies. If that's the case, remove the pollen bearing organs of the flower and you can eat these with no problems. One of my favorite edible flowers is squash blossoms. Here are some other flowers you can eat.
Thyme, Anise Hyssop, Chamomile, Violets, Coriander, Rosemary, Mustard, Daisy, Begonia, Pansy, Chives, Dandelion, Chrysanthemum, Basil, Bee Balm, Nasturtiums, Honeysuckle, Oregano, Pineapple Sage, Rosemary.
There are many poisonous flowers in the garden too such as lily-of-the-valley, datura, brugmansia, gardenia, iris.
I hope this helps.
Tom
