QuestionWe planted 4 hypericum in a sunny location last year, toward the end of summer. I can't remember the varieties, but three had full yellow flowers and the fourth had berries. I did not prune them. Is it too late for me to prune them now? The branches and leaves are currently an burnt orange/brown color.
Thanks so much, CS
AnswerHi Carol,
Thanx for your question. The best time to prune hypericum is late winter or early spring. Some references suggest cutting the shrub down to the ground every three years. I have not grown this plant this way so I can't tell you how effective that is but several reliable sources indicate this will help keep the plant from becoming unruly. I hope this helps.
