unknown seed

Question
QUESTION: I just moved back into the home I grew up in, which has formerly been rented out. I found seeds on 3-4 plants that are dormant, and I would like to know what they are. The seeds are paisley shaped (best description I can come up with)with many amber colored hairs coming off them, on all sides. I'm an amateur, so forgive me if this is easy...

ANSWER: Hi Heather,
Thanx for your question.  This is not an easy question to answer.  What is your general location?  Please describe the plant, leaves, height, blossoms, seed pod, etc. in detail.  I have no idea what this is right now as the description is still pretty vague.  By paisley shaped do you mean like the paisley pattern which is like a teardrop with a curved tail?  How big are the seeds?  Are there lots of seeds or just a few?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Hi Tom! Thx for the reply. I am in central NC. The seeds are indeed shaped like the paisley pattern. They are about the size of the top of a pencil eraser. Each pod held about 4-5 seeds. The pods themselves were arranged in a star-like shape with 4-5 pods on the end of the branch, almost looked like a dried up flower, but it wasnt. The plant itself is about 3 foot high and shaped like a rose bush, but without any thorns. Thats about all I have to go on. There were no leaves or any other identifying features. They have tiny buds on them, so I guess I will find out in a few months, I'm just impatient....

Answer
Hi Heather,
Thanx for your question.  The seed sounds like seed from the malva family.  It sounds like hollyhock or marsh mallow or any number of mallows.  Is the seed rather flat with the hairs coming out of it?  Some of the low growing hollyhocks might resemble a short shrub.  I hope this helps.
Tom
