AnswerHi Michelle,
Thanx for your question. Calla lilies are not reliably hardy in Connecticut. You will have to lift (dig up) the corms after the first frost has killed off the green growth. Store the corms in a cool, dry, dark place for the winter. Replant once you've had your last frost. I love callas and I don't mind digging them up for the winter but many people do not want to be bothered.
Use daffodils, tulips, narcissus, muscari, hyacinth, scilla, dwar iris, Asiatic lilis, Oriental lilies, day lilies, Formosa lilies, tiger lilies, brodeia, crown imperials, crocus, etc. for spring and early summer bulbs. The Formosa lily is an Easter Lily like lily that doesn't bloom until August and is kind of fun to have around when all lilies have long since bloomed.
I hope this helps.
Tom
