overgrown hibiscus

Question
We have what MAY have been a well-behaved hibiscus "hedge" (south Florida) at the back of our new yard.  This "hedge" is very well-established, and consists of lots of individual plants -- some are single-blossoms, some are double-blossomed;  and all the colors possible are represented.  The blossom and foliage growth is very regular and abundant (so the plants aren't fighting with each other for space).  The same array of plants are found on the side of the house, where they ARE well-behaved.  The ones at the back yard are HUGE and unruly.  We prune every weekend, yet by the following weekend the plants seem to have grown back bigger and stronger.  While they maybe beautiful to some, these are now on my 'attack list'.
What's the best way to remove them?

Answer
Hi Linda,
Thanx for your question.  At the risk of not being politically correct, I always say get out the old Roundup.  It does the trick and it biodegrades quickly.  Pour it around the roots of the plant and it may take a couple of treatment but eventually the shrubs will die and they will be easier to dig up and extract out of the ground.  I hope this helps.
Tom
