QuestionQUESTION: I have a large area (about 300 sq feet) that now has wildflowers; I would like something other than pansies for the fall/winter. I will be planting a variety of daffodils (Early-late bloomers). I'm just south of Birmingham, AL and this area gets full sun -- any suggestions? Thanks!
ANSWER: Hi Dawn,
Thanx for your question. There are a number of plants that will fit this bill for you.
Datura (also known as jimsonweed or thornapple), canna, mums, asters (there is a wonderful selection of fall-blooming perennial asters), four-o-clocks (they reseed so well they might as well perennial but are not rated perennial for cooler than zone 8), sedum, salvias, agastache, ornamental grasses and rain lilies (zepyranthes). I hope this helps.

QUESTION: What a great assortment! Will any of these hold up until the early daffodils show their sunny faces?
AnswerHi Dawn,
Thanx for the additional information. Unfortunately, the selections I gave you will fade once you have a frost. I can't think of anything that won't fade away once you've had your hard frosts and I know they are not as hard as Midwestern or Northern frosts but, you only have to wait a couple of months before things start reemerging for you. I hope this helps.
