QuestionA friend just gave me some seeds from her daylillies. What is the best way to plant them?
AnswerHi Sherry,
Thanx for your question. Right after Christmas, place the seeds in a damp paper towel, seal it in a plastic baggie and place it in the fridge for 30 days. After that, plant the seeds 1/2 inch deep in a pot of good potting soil and keep the soil moist and warm. The seedlings will begin to emerge in 2-4 weeks. They will look like grass. When they are manageable size, gently prick them out and plant them in separate cells. Make sure you keep them under a 40-watt shop light (about 8inches above) while they are growing indoors. After the last frost, you can take them outdoors and place them in the shade where they will be protected from direct sun, wind, rain, etc. for about 10 days. After that, plant in direct sun. I hope this helps.
