Question
As a beginner to gardening are there any books you would recommend I get?  I live in NH.  I know absolutely nothing about gardening, started with 2 small gardens this year and would like to do a little more next year.  Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi Kathie,
Thanx for your question and I'm sorry it has taken me so long to answer.  I thought and thought about this and the way I learned about gardening was through observation and trial and error and then, I would go to the library and check out books on the various gardening subjects and finally, the wonderful Internet.  Nights and nights spent on Gardenweb.com and reading through various websites, becoming a member of SIGNA (Species Iris Group of North America).  Going to the flower and garden shows in Kansas City, Topeka, Wichita and Philadelphia.  Studying gardening catalogues especially Thompson and Morgan and Jellito.  So, with all of that said, I recommend that you visit your local library.  I've been to New Hampshire a ton of times.  There are tons of library resources there in Manchester, Salem, Portsmouth, Concord and other places.  Check out a book on perennials and read it.  Get on the Internet and Google "perennials" or Google "gardening".  You'd be amazed what you get.  Bookmark it so you can go back to it as often as you want.  Watch Martha Stewart, Renee's Garden and Public Television for those resources.  I go to various garden shows in town like the Cactus Society, Dahlia Society, Daylily Society, Hosta Society, County Fairs, etc. just to get more information and sometimes get some great deals on some cool plants.  I hope this helps and if it does not, hit me back and tell me why and I'll see what else I might be able to do.

Tom
