Hi Charles,
Thanx for your question.  I highly recommend that you look at High Country Gardens which is a nursery that specializes in xeriscaping which is the use of plants with low moisture requirements.  High Country has lots of wonderful plants that are good for hot, dry areas.  Because you're near Atlanta and normally get good rainfall, make sure your pots drain well because generally plants with low water requirements do not like wet feet (soggy roots).  I hope this helps.
