Questionhi can i take the seeds from the pod and just put them in soil in pots in the house or how sould i start them and in the house do they need alot of light?
AnswerHi Kim,
Thanx for your question. Allow the seed pod of the calla to ripen and turn brown. Then you can plant the seeds. Push them into the soil and gently cover them. Keep the soil eveningly moist but not soggy and keep it warm. The seedlings will emerge in a couple of weeks. Yes, they require lots of light. I would place them underneath a 40-watt shop light suspended about 8 inches above. If you live in a frost-free area, move the seedlings outdoors to a shaded place for about 10 days. After that, place the seedlings in direct sunlight. After a few weeks and they are several inches tall you can gently prick them out of the soil and put them in the desired locations. If you do not live in a frost-free area, the corms (bulbs) of callas must be lifted (dug up) prior to the onset of winter or they will not survive. So, I would not start the seeds until January if you don't live in a frost free area. I hope this helps.
