QuestionHi Tom,
I have a lovely Anthurium for 4 years now. It has bloomed continually and seems happy. Lately, the stems are getting so long that the plant is drooping over the edge of the pot. It has always been an upright plant (not a trailing variety). It no longer looks good. Can I cut back the stems to get a less gangly plant? If not, do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Carolyn
AnswerHi Carolyn,
Thanx for your question and sorry it took so long to get back to you. Yes, you can cut your anthurium back. They have a tendency to get leggy after a while. Anthuriums like bright, indirect light. Keep them well-watered but also make sure the pot drains well. Feed with a balanced fertilizer about once a month. Keep them warm. They are a tropical plant. Go ahead and cut the plant back and new growth will begin to emerge. Cut them back to a couple of inches above the crown. I hope this helps.
Tom
