QuestionI live in south Texas, very, very hot, but very humid. I planted verbena plants in the fall and they made it through winter and were very beautiful in the spring and early summer. As the temp got hotter, they started dying in places, not all of them. I would cut out the bad ones and deadhead, but it didn't stop the dying. The entire plant turned brown, the stems were brown and dry, like they were burnt. I watered them about once a week thoroughly, also fertilized them, but nothing helped. I have a pretty big area where they are beautiful and blooming, but also a pretty big area of nothing but dead stems. What is wrong, and will they come back?
AnswerHi Cindy,
Thanx for your question. Water only when they are dry and stop fertilizing. You're probably taking too good care of them. Here is a link to Texas A&M which has a wonderful article for care of verbenas in South Texas. I hope this helps.
