Co-workers gave me a big Calla Lilly.. HELP!

Question
I have no clue how to care for a Calla Lilly and when I was sick my co-workers gave me a very large cream colored Calla Lilly and I am afraid I will kill it! I do not know if I should put the plant outside where it gets very hot or keep it inside the house. How much do I water the plant, how much sun does it need, etc.
I also noticed that there is no drainage hole in the bottom of the pot so I don't know if I need to put a hole in the pot either.

FYI.. I live the most southern part of Utah near St. George so it is very hot in the summer outside.

Answer
Hi Sindy,
Thanx for your question.  Me personally?  I'd plant the calla outside for the spring, summer and fall, maybe in a planter box or urn.  Water it often enough that it doesn't dry out, especially in the summer heat.  If your summers are really hot, the calla benefits from partial shade to full shade.  I've planted in both and our summers are very hot and muggy here in Kansas.  Make sure the planting container in which you transplant your calla drains because callas don't like soggy, undraining soil.  Throw in a handful of bonemeal which will provide some nutrients for the corm (the bulb).  In the fall, the first frost will kill back the plant but not the corm (bulb) so you can either dig it back up and repot it for indoors or, dig it up, cut off the dead growth and stored the corm in a cool, dry, unfreezing basement until next spring.  Replant next spring as soon as it gets warm enough.  I hope this helps.
Tom
