QuestionI live in Canada, and it is well past May and time for spring planting. I purchased some healthy, firm irises in suare pots from the garden centre (several had unopened blooms). They stayed in the car all weekend and were still stiff before I put them in the ground. I planted them in a garden beside my customers pool, and beefed uup the soil with a little triple mix. As soon as I put them in the ground, the leaves are all wilting and not standing erect. the flowers still seem okay. I am concerned about this as the stiff leaves of irises are great for around pools, and the foilage stays pretty for the whole season. Can you shed some insight as to why this may be happening? Do you think they will bounce back? Irises are pretty hardy.
AnswerHi Erin,
Thanx for your question. It sounds to me like the iris is going through some transplant shock. Irises are tough customers though and I believe they will bounce back to normal it will just take them some time to acclimate themselves to their new surrounings. In the meantime, I would make sure they are watered once a week if you don't have regular rain. Their exposure should also be direct sunlight for maximum blooming. I hope this helps.
