geraniums

Question
I planted red ivy geraniums in pots with new potting soil.  They have begun turning a purple-red color that I do not like.  Why is this?  Is there something I can add to the soil to make then turn true red again?

Answer
Hi Trish,
Thanx for your question.  I believe the reason for the change in color of your geranium blooms is the result of a change in the pH of the soil in which they are planted.  Try adding a weak solution of Miracid (made by the MiracleGro people) and it can be purchased in most DIYs or nurseries.  Follow the directions on the box and weaken it by half and see if that doesn't restore some of the red.  If it doesn't try full strenght.  I hope this helps.
Tom
