QuestionJust got a potted hibiscus plant as a gift, about 3-4 ft. tall. How do I care for it.POT is 8". Do I need to repot or transplant.I live in the NJ area.Do I take it inside for winter.
AnswerHi John,
Thanx for your question. Is this a tropical hibiscus (house plant)? If so, it will do well outdoors in your New Jersey summer but bring it in about early October and keep it in a sunny window or patio door. It will go semi-dormant and drop some leaves but water it enough to keep it from drying out and it will survive until you can put it outdoors again. If it is a hardy hibiscus, put it into the ground. YOu won't be doing it any favors keeping it in a pot. There should be a tag on the plant that will tell you. If not, ask where the plant was purchased and ask the store what kind of a hibiscus it is. Hibiscus will tolerate drought and heat but keep them well water but well drained so the soil doesn't stay soggy. I hope this helps.
