QuestionWe just bought two Elephant Ear Mammoth bulbs, and we would like to know how to take care of them in the fall and winter. Do we need to bring them in during the winter months we live in Nebraska. Please help us.
Thank you Sharon
AnswerHi Sharon,
Thanx for your question. In th4e fall, allow the first frost to kill back the plant. It won't hurt the bulb. Cut off the ruined foliage and dig up the bulb. Gently clean off the dirt but don't wash the bulb. If it has mud on it, allow it to dry in the sun for a few days and then remove the dirt. Store the bulb in a cool, dry, dark place in a basement or garage where it doesn't freeze. The bulb should be fine during the winter here. Replant in the spring after the last frost and once ground temperatures are warm. I plant my elephant ear bulbs deep enough where there is about 2 or 3 inches of soil above the top of the bulb. I hope this helps.
