Question
I have had a yucca plant in my yard for many years and never had a problem. It is a very dense, low to the ground (not treelike) mature plant. Each year I remove the dead leaves, but this spring all of a sudden all of the leaves, except for 1 or 2 green sprouts have died and fallen off. Any idea of what the problem may be? I live in upstate NY.
I also have holly plants that are 10 years old and are still very sparse and haven't grown very much. I have tried cutting them back in the spring (a local garden person told me that), they seemed to improve slightly but nowhere near as full as many of the holly I have seen in my area. We fertize with holly (acid) fertilize in the spring. Any other suggestions?
AnswerMary Lou,
I have NO experience with Yucca plants, sorry.
Is your holly shrub in full sun/partial sun? They are not real fast growers. Try NOT cutting them back and let them go. I know "they" say to fertilize with an acid fertilizer but I use an organic fertilizer (it is not sold in all states) called Millorganite. The best fertilizer for everything!!
