QuestionHow do I winterize my fuscias? I work at a Dr.s office and our porch has hanging baskets and I would love to have them again next spring.
AnswerHi Christina,
Thanx for your question. The best way to winterize fuchsia is to bring it indoors, cut the plant back to 6 inch stubs, water very sparingly so that the soil does not completely dry out and keep it in a very cool but not frosty room. The ideal temperature is 50-55 degrees. This will cause the plant to go into a dormancy period. Make sure the plant gets light. In the spring, when you return the fuchsia to the outdoors after all danger of frost, hang the plant in the shade for 10 days so it can acclimate itself to the brightness of outdoors, otherwise the plant may get scalded and shrivel up and die. I hope this helps.
