AnswerHi Roberta,
Thanx for your question. For fall color use chrysanthemums, asters (there are beautiful New England asters available at your local nursery), hostas (all kinds of foliage color combination, sedums such as Autum Glory, lilium formosanum is a hardy, Easter-lily type lily that blooms in August and September. Hardy hibiscus will bloom until the first frost in pinks, whites, reds as do Rose of Sharon (Hybiscus syriacus). Iris foetidissima is an iris that leaves colorful stalks of berries in the fall. It grows well in the shade. Small shrubs like Japanese maples, witch hazel and ornamental sumac have wonder fall colors in yellows, oranges, reds and pinks. I hope this helps.
