QuestionI live in Arkansas and planted liriope muscari in our new garden last fall. It looks great but lately I've noticed many, many shoots of what looks to be liriope in our lawn. I thought they were weeds but I'm now almost positive it is the liriope muscari. Does this sounds reasonable and if so how do I get rid of it? Will the usual weed killer from Tru Green do the trick? I've grown this before in a different house and had not problems. Thanks for your help!
AnswerKarla,
Yes, you are probably right. This plant propagates by seed. I would imagine that if you put a "post-emergent" on the area around the plant, you will not have the plant next year.
I do not know if the seed germinates in the fall or spring. Using a "post-emergent" in the fall kills the seeds that germinate in the fall and a "pre-emergent" put on in the early spring will kill seeds that germinate in the spring. You can use the same product for both seasons--I'd do it both times to be sure. When using this product you cannot sow seeds of any kind for 6 weeks.
