QuestionHi
I have a bunch of perennials that need to be divided. I am at the Jersey shore,
zone 7. When is the best time to divide them? I have hosta, black-eyed
susan, astilbe, salvia and coreopsis. I also have two hydrangea bushes to
move to better locations. Thanks
Kathleen
AnswerAll of the above should be divided in the Fall as they take steps toward dormancy. The long winter rest will do them good after a major trauma like transplanting them.
It's an excellent exercise, one more people should learn. Not only will you multiply your plant stock, but you will invigorate the original plant, yielding better blooms, better disease resistance, and better growth during peak season.
