QuestionI live in SW Florida and have numerous hibiscus. They maintain a deep green color and are full of buds but they never bloom. The buds appear to dry out and fall off the plant. Help!
AnswerHi Philip,
Thanx for your question. It sounds like your plants have an infestation of gall midge. The midge lays its eggs in the bud and the larvae feed on the bud causing it to yellow and fall off. Open some of the buds up and you should see the larvae in them. You'll need to go to your nearest garden center and buy an insecticide that will help you control the gall midge. If you give me your county I can provide you information for contacting someone locally for advice on controls. I hope this helps.
