QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
I've not been able to find much information as to whether or not the Agapanthus africanus plant would be a good choice in an area with alot of deer. Can you help me?
Thank you,
Vicki
ANSWER: Hi Vicki,
Are you in California, Florida, Texas? I have not heard that agapanthus is a popular deer food but, it would help to know your location.
thx,
Tom

QUESTION: Hi Tom,
I am located in Northern California in a very rural area. The deer population is quite large in our community, and they do seem to eat almost everything that is considered "deer resistant," including some poisonous plants! I suppose my question could almost be moot under these circumstances. But I was curious if there was any information that might help sway my decision to fill my yard with Agapanthus (or not) before I finish my landscaping.
Thanks much,
Vicki
AnswerHi Vicki,
According to Texas A&M University and Oregon State University, agapanthus is deer resistant. Most deer will eat just about anything if there is not enough natural forage. I can tell you from experience. I have a small market farm of 2 acres and I have been devastated by deer. they have eaten carrot tops, beans to the point the beans can't even produce! They have even eaten cucumber leaves and tomato tops! Good luck.
