peonies and moonflowers

Question
I have a fern leaf peony someone gave me. It is a baby plant and was planted last June.  When will it bloom? My brother gave me one but the leaves are thicker and and a little different to look at, what do I have here? His has since gone brown and died off.  I can get some more from him. Also is the moonflower a Datura?  What colours can you get?

Answer
Hi Donna,
Thanx for your question.  What is your location?

Generally, peonies will not bloom for 2-3 years after their roots have been disturbed.  Fern leaf peonies are but one of many, many varieties of peony.  I have the broader leaf variety.  There are also tree varieties that have been cultivated in China and Japan for centuries.  There are so many varieties there is no way I can tell you what you have based upon a leaf pattern.  I would suggest that you do a search on Google.com and type in PEONIES.  In general, moonflower is the datura.  Moonvine, usually refers to a perennial Ipomoea species of night blooming, large blossom, morning glory.  Datura is also referred to as Jimson weed, angel's trumpet, Gabriel's trumpet.  Datura will occur primarily in white but also occurs in purple and yellow.  I hope this helps.
Tom
