Hosta Flowering

Question
How can I encourage the hostas that I've planted in Atlanta, GA over the past four years to flower? Although they flowered well during the first year, they have almost entirely ceased to do so. They are in a rich friable light soil in an area that receives 2-4 hours of sun daily. I ensure that the soil is moist (not damp or soggy) at all times. A light mulch provides moisture retention. I add a slow release GP fertilizer (Osmocote) each early spring. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hey Jay

Your hostas need to have some time to cool off, up here in zone 5 (ohio) my hostas have that period when they go dormant and the next season they grow and flower. what you need to do is cut them back and dig them up and put them in a cool dry place for a couple of months so the can enter dormancy.......then replant them and I assure you they will flower.......
