QuestionHello,
I live in Southeast Texas. My husband gave me a purple calla lily (sp?) recently. It was already blooming in the pot. I kept it in the house by a bright window and occasionally set it outside on bright but not hot days (it's already getting hot down here). First, the flowers lost their purple color and were just a light green. Now, the leaves are rapidly turning yellow. I repotted it into a larger pot with a good potting soil. What am I doing wrong? I have never had a plant like this before but have done well with other plants in the past, including other varieties of lily.
AnswerHi Jennifer,
Thanx for your question. You're not doing anything wrong. Calla lilies are not meant to be house plants. In SE Texas, the plant will survive the winter. Take the plant outdoors and plant it where it will get sun for part (not all) of the day and make sure it doesn't dry all the way out. The plant is done blooming for this year but the foliage should remain. If it doesn't, that means the plant is going dormant. It may sprout back out later this season. Hopefully, it isn't totally spent from being a houseplant and will survive in your garden. I hope this helps.
