QuestionI live in nassau county long island and have a hardy hibiscus tree and a daisy tree. both are in the ground. do i need to take them in for the winter? thank you for your help
AnswerHardy Hibiscus is just what it sounds like - Hardy - unless you've been growing it in a pot. In that case, it needs to be placed in the ground for the winter, or at least placed in a well sheltered location, where the pot won't freeze solid. Long Island is too cold to keep most hardy plants in pots for the winter without some protection.
Your Daisy Tree is another matter. If you are referring to one of those charming, daisy-flowered shrubs purchased this year at a nursery and trained to grow as small trees in a pot, try to get the name it was sold under - perhaps there's a tag or receipt indicating what you purchased. Daisy is a BIG category. That said, if it is still potted, and if it is in fact a perennial, you can save it for another season by giving it the same treatment as your hardy hibiscus, but don't keep it anywhere the temperature will dip below 40 degrees or you might lose it.
See what you can do about a better identification for this mystery "Daisy Tree". I'd like to help you out but I need more information to give you a complete answer.
