QuestionWould you have some advice any thoughts regarding the planting right now of tea roses outside in Zone 6? I would like to expand our "collection" but I can't decide if this is best done in autumn or spring as I have had some very bad luck doing this in the summer.
AnswerAssuming the plants arrive dormant, I would think this would be an excellent time to plunge those roses right into the ground and cover with soil above for protection. It would be a bit easier if I knew what exactly you were purchasing - Zone 6 for some of the most popular roses is borderline hardy, and you'll eventually end up with the Rootstock parent rather than the flowering shrub you thought you paid for. I'm guessing you lost your Roses in the past to heat waves, and/or you tried Bare root Rosebushes, which almost never work for me in the dead of summer.
